Moodboard.

There might not be an underlining reason for this post but as i have stated in earlier posts its nearly my birthday (8 days till 18) and i get very nostalgic, this year its the 90s last year it was 80s and who knows maybe next year it will be the 1920s. However the decade of my birth has always been of interest to me. We have plaid, the rapid growth of Grunge, NSync, Backstreet Boys, TLC,Fugees, the evolution of Supermodels and a young Drew Barrymore.

I like that the 90s were subtle but still had explosive fashion trends, which made it a very iconic era.

Summer Essentials 2013

Summer Summer Summer.

So this summer your probably going to want to chill with friends, go to as many parties/clubs as you can and just have a great time.
So if your not bothered about choosing different outfits each time i'm hear to help.

The essentials:

1. Denim shorts.
Either high-waisted denim cut offs, which could go for about £10 or less at Brick Lane or Portobello Market. If your not into vintage Topshop, Asos, River Island and MissGuided.com supply a great variety of shorts.

2.Crop tops.
If you dare to bare that midriff this summer crop tops are a must, before branching off into patterned prints get the 3 basics: White, Black and Grey trust me you can not go wrong with these colours.

3. T-shirt Dresses.
T-shirt dresses are a god send, if your like me and would rather wear a bagby shirt than a bodycon dress this will be perfect. And they are ever so casual, just slip one on with some converses and your ready to go.

4.Flatforms.
Flatforms are not only a great modern trend but they also can be styled with everything, from a they can transform an outfit from a causal look to evening attire.

5. Bags.
I know this is a very vague statement but this summer, backpacks and shoulder bags are a must have. With back packs go for all black leather or denim look ones and as for shoulder bags the brighter the better.

6.Trainers/Sneakers
I think everyone should have a pair of comfortable trainers that they can wear with everything, be it Vans, Converses or Nikes. One pair is all you need to make a simple causal summer outfit.

Viva Forever.

During the four week long period or so until my birthday (turning 18 this year) i normally feel very nostalgic, so this blog post is going to be about the Nineties. And what better way to lay the foundation of this topic by talking about the greatest female band of the 90s: The Spice Girls.

I have always loved the 90s a great decade for film: Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Forrest Gump.
And even better for fashion, the fact that there were completely different trends during this decade always fascinates me. On the one hand we have Grunge, a kind of protest to the nu wave movement of the 80s, which i still try to emulate, with oversized flannel shirts, distressed boyfriend jeans, doc martens, worker boots or flatforms.
But then there was the popularization of Pop music from s club to Britney and of course the Spice Girls, they brought in alot of colour to what might have been a very 'dark' decade.

Although some of you may read this and cringe at the fact that i look to the Spice Girls for fashion inspiration, their style is pretty OTT and individual which i like.

Okay baby doll dresses, shift dresses, crop tops and Buffalo platform sneakers are the essentials to creating a Spice Girls-esque look.
What i really liked about their style is that it epitomizes pop, with the bright colours, sequins and creative patterns. The great thing is copying their look isn't difficult as alot of high street shops such as TopShop, H&M and River Island are recreating nineties trends.

So what is/was it about the Spice Girls that radiated greatness for me, it wasn't just the fact that they were great and preached for GIRL POWER. But they had this quirky and fun fashion, which spoke volumes to me as a child. Shift dresses in the style that baby spice wore are back! and very cheap with a nice modern twist a la this £7.99 dress from H&M:

So if your ready to spice up your life (pun intended) why not try out these bad boys:

Very Baby Spice

Grunge is a much easier fashion statement to be inspired by, its understated, casual but you can still individualize it. If your lucky enough to live near vintage shops, that sell vintage flannel shirts for a cheap price and has mountains and mountains of leather jackets, then this trend will be so easy to emulate.

If your still not sure look to Gwen Stefani, her style is amazing, unique and creative and in the 90s was even better.

I don't even have to write about how great Gwen Stefani, was, is and will be, i mean just check out her MC Hammer style trousers in the last pic.
Gwen Stefani embodies funk and her grunge nineties style only influences my fashion more.
The nineties never died. So this summer why not return to one of the greatest decades ever?

But, if your not really a nostalgic or retro person, you can modernize these looks with a black or patterned flatforms and an Aztec print t-shirt dress.

Oh yeah, and to round off here is a fun fact about me:
i was named after baby spice.

Peter Pan Complex.

We have all had a period in our lives where we literally have tried to stop growing up. Lets face it the adult world is scary, it might aswell be a gaping black hole to another universe.

But the latest trends are taking a stance on growing up. I'm talking about a childhood revival.

Dungarees are an essential peice of clothing every 90s child needs. Its a great statement peice for summer as you can literally wear them with everything: the childs version of an LBD.
If your feeling nostalgic they come in cute patterns featuring childhood favorites:
Mickey Mouse
Winnie the Pooh
Bugs Bunny

Check out indie pop princess Marina and the Diamonds rocking the trend:

With a trend like this, the number one rule is too make an impact, for example accessories:
bright big bows
chunky bracelets and necklaces
& colourful headbands to make you look like a big kid.

And of course a great vintage or 1990s revival back pack is a must to complete the look. But if your not all that into backpacks i would recommend a bright coloured satchel, string bag or messenger bag.

For footwear, as grunge lover myself, i would wear worker boots, or Docs, however you can easily pull this look off with trainers. Nike blazers, vintage jordens or all leather converses.

The great thing about this trend is that the pieces are easily accessible you can find cheap one off pieces in vintage stores and charity shops or online in Asos Marketplace or eBay.

The Emmys.

I try to stray away from writing about award shows, the same generic dresses and styles all revolving from each star/starlet, but this years Emmys were different.
Now, there were some catastrophically ghastly dresses that 'graced' that red carpet that literally made my skin crawl for example, the ever so beautiful Sofia Vergara;
While her casual attire is so effortless and on-trend this dress is reminiscent of that infamous J-Lo dress circa 2000. The cuts are spontaneous and she is clearly oblivious to the first rule of evening dresses: only have one asset on show! This dress doesn't compliment her amazing figure and makes her look much older than she is. The sequined design may have looked pleasant in moderation but as its all over the dress, its gives it a very cheap feel, if i was her stylist i would have dressed her in a mid length body con dress, with a closed neck in a nice jade green with minimal gold accessories and nude or black shoes. Or i would have put in a backless dress in a deep shade of red.

On a happier note there was dress that for me stood out of the crowd and i can happily say she was the best dressed actress there.

As a girl with a volumptuous shape Kat Dennings knows how to style her self accordingly, this dress emphasizes her chest without making her look trashy, the dark red is perfect against her fair skin tone and the minimal accessories don't steal the attention away from the ruched detailing on the dress. I think Sofia could learn a lesson or two from her.

A runner up for the best dressed title is the girl after revenge also known as Emily vanCamp:

Her beautiful stone grey coloured dress looks effortless on her and the detailing is absolutely gorgeous, the ruffling of the skirt gives the dress a fairytale feel while the sheer top makes the dress more mature and sexy.

Lana Del Rey.

So, for those of you who dont know her (seriously?) Lana, Lizzy or Queen Lana as i call her is fast become a music legend. Her sombre and emotional songs are a musical dream and her style is even better.
Recently, Lana has performed at hackney weekend, the itunes festival and has become the face of H&M. I know right?

Since mulberry named a bag after her, Lana Del Rey has become one to watch, from her artistic and grainy videos which i adore to the nostalgic touch in her wardrobe. Her style is classic from floor-length lace dresses to a dressed down look of a skater skirt, knitted jumper and ballet shoes lana know how to dress and it must be easier when you have your own bag that available in 3 different colors, textures e.g.snake print and an oversize version.
Del Rey Bag.
The new line is great, featuring sensational tones of pinks and red i guess one word to some this line up is romantic, the type of clothing you would wear on a first date in winter or to snuggle up and have a hot chocolate with a significant other, suede heels, baggy  knitted jumpers and peplum tops. The soft colors are perfect for winter if you want to 'jazz' up your old winter wardrobe filled with colors such as navy and dark blue. And for all you vintage lovers this range will be perfect for you, the reminisce of the 60's in the clothes make the line more perfect.

From these photographs i can only assume you have your credit cards out ready to purchase some of these brilliant pieces so i've made it easier for you, just click here.
